How to Clean a Front Load Washing Machine

Front load washing machines are efficient, but they can hold onto residue over time. Detergent, fabric softener, body oils, lint, and hard water minerals can collect inside the machine where you cannot easily reach.

Renuv Washing Machine Cleaner Tablets are made for the washer itself. The goal is to help clean the drum, tub, pipes, hoses, pump, and internal water lines where odor-causing buildup can collect.

Start with an empty washer. Do not add clothes or detergent. Place one washing machine cleaner tablet directly into the drum.

Run a hot washer-cleaning cycle if your machine has one. If it does not, run a normal hot cycle. The hot water helps the tablet dissolve and move through the machine.

When the cycle is done, leave the door open so the inside can dry. Moisture sitting inside the washer can contribute to stale smells.

Clean the detergent drawer separately if it is removable. Wash it with warm water, rinse it, and let it dry before putting it back.

Use a soft cloth to wipe visible surfaces around the drum opening and door area as part of general washer care. The tablet is for the internal washer system, not a substitute for wiping visible surfaces by hand.

If your washer smells musty, clothes come out smelling off, or you see residue in the drum, it is time to clean the machine. A monthly cleaning routine is a good baseline for most households.

Homes with heavy laundry, workout clothes, towels, pet bedding, or hard water may need to clean more often.
