Cloudy glassware and dishwasher odor are easy to ignore because the machine still runs. But both can be signs that buildup is sitting inside the dishwasher.
Cloudiness often comes from hard-water minerals, detergent residue, or poor rinsing. Odor usually points to trapped food, a dirty filter, or stale moisture.
Start with the filter. Remove it if your model allows, rinse away trapped debris, and check the area around it.
Look at the spray arms too. If holes are clogged, water may not move through the dishwasher evenly.
Run a dishwasher cleaner to help remove odor-causing residue and mineral buildup from places a sponge cannot reach.
Do not overload the dishwasher, and make sure dishes are not blocking the spray pattern. A cleaner machine still needs water to reach the glassware.
If you have hard water, cleaning more often can help reduce the film that shows up on glasses and inside the machine.
