OXO coffee makers are built for consistent drip coffee, but mineral buildup can still slow the machine down. If water sits in the reservoir and passes through heated internal parts, scale can form.
Cleaning and descaling are not the same job. Cleaning handles coffee residue on removable parts. Descaling clears mineral buildup from the water path.
Start with the visible pieces. Empty the carafe, remove the filter, and wash the removable parts with warm water and mild dish soap. Rinse everything well.
For internal buildup, use a coffee maker cleaner or descaler according to your machine's instructions. Add the cleaner to the water reservoir, run the cleaning or brew cycle without coffee, and let the solution move through the machine.
After that, rinse. Run clean water through the brewer before making coffee again. If anything smells off or the water looks cloudy, rinse again.
Signs your OXO coffee maker needs attention include slower brewing, a cloudy reservoir, stale-tasting coffee, or visible scale around the water tank.
Use a cleaner monthly if you brew daily or have hard water. If you brew less often, make sure water is not sitting in the reservoir for days at a time.
